Loop is a global platform for reuse. We collaborate with brands and manufacturers to enable refillable versions of their conventional single-use products, and partner with leading retailers to embed these offerings into their online eCommerce and physical retail stores. We're working with category-leading brands, retailers, restaurants, and more to activate a circular reuse ecosystem offering thousands of products - from your cup of coffee to your shampoo bottle - with an aim to make reuse as convenient and accessible as single use.

Our Story

Loop's groundbreaking reuse platform was announced in 2019 at the World Economic Forum in Davos, and is now available in the United States, Japan, and France. Partnered with leading consumer product companies and retailers, Loop continues to launch innovative new platforms to offer reuse across a broad spectrum of categories, from restaurants to reusable diaper services.

Our Roots

Where we started: TerraCycle

Loop Global Holdings is managed by TerraCycle, an innovative social enterprise whose mission is to Eliminate the Idea of Waste®. Operating across 22 countries, TerraCycle collects and recycles hard-to-recycle trash through national recycling platforms (for hundreds of waste streams ranging from cigarette butts to dirty diapers). TerraCycle also helps manufacturers integrate unique recycled content into their packages.

With 18 years of experience in facilitating partnerships that enable companies to shift from linear systems to circular systems based on recycling and recycled content, TerraCycle aimed to create a platform that could go further - helping companies tighten the circle and shift from single use to reusable ecosystems. This concept was the starting point for Loop, which filled the industry gap of an accessible global platform for reuse and enabled the expertise and operational capability to bring the idea to life.

Our Foundation

What we stand for: TerraCycle Foundation

The TerraCycle Global Foundation was formed in 2018 with a seed grant from the PepsiCo Foundation, and their mission is to address the complex challenges of collecting and recycling waste in emerging countries, with a special emphasis on preventing plastic pollution from entering local aquatic systems. The inaugural platform in Thailand leverages a fleet of locally constructed and serviced river clean up systems to collect almost 5 metrics tons of marine waste per week, and works to improve land-based plastic collection and find end solutions for collected materials.

Our Mission

Challenge

The proliferation of single-use products, and the marketing campaigns that defined them as a transformative modern convenience, has increased exponentially over the last several decades and resulted in a global waste crisis that threatens our oceans, our ecosystems, and human health. Today less than 10% of all single-use packaging is recycled, leaving the remaining 90% in landfills, incinerated, or discarded and ending up in our oceans.

Solution

Loop’s model is built to scale the impact of reuse across a cross-category global ecosystem of products, and to make these products as accessible and convenient as possible for consumers by distributing them through a network of existing channels and retailers. We’ve applied the principles of durability and reuse to consumer products at scale by building a system that meets consumers where they are, offering convenient ways to buy reusable products and return them with ease anywhere in our collection network.

Impact

A Loop product can reduce on average 45% of greenhouse gas emissions compared to the traditional in-store counterpart. Plus, every return means a package was diverted from landfill or incineration, keeping materials in circulation for as long as possible at their highest value - improving supply chain resiliency by breaking the reliance on virgin materials to create new packaging.

Vision

Our vision is a transformative circular economy that reduces our global reliance on single-use disposables while offering unparalleled consumer experience, accessibility, and convenience. We are building an ecosystem that offers a reusable alternative for every consumer product category, a dense network of return collection points that makes a “reuse bin” as ubiquitous as today’s street corner trash cans, and an integrated system that enables customers to buy reusable products anywhere and return them anywhere. This end state - which transforms reuse into a system that’s just as convenient as throwaway culture without sacrificing product experience or selection - is not only a solution to the waste crisis, but also a competitive and transformative business model for our partners.
